Johnson and Wales University, Denver Campus

Data Center and Fiber Ring

Location: Denver, CO
Client:  Johnson and Wales University

Project Description:

Johnson and Wales University (JWU) is a private university serving 17,000 students on 4 campuses across the country.  The Denver campus is undergoing major transitions and renovation to support the growing needs of the JWU mission.

To address these goals, the Denver Data Center and inter-building fiber connectivity were in need of upgrade to enhance reliability and fault tolerance.  Vantage led the JWU team through identification of issues, problem statements and collaborative solution seeking sessions; Vantage developed and presented options, built consensus  and made a final recommendations on the way forward.  The report demonstrated a need and identified costs associated with a new Data Center, a reliable secondary point of presence and a new robust and fault tolerant fiber loop connecting the entire campus all with N+1 cooling and power, active monitoring with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), high density fiber fields on innovative space saving platforms and careful attention to campus architectural needs.  Following this initial process Vantage was employed as Owners Representative to oversee detailed design of the Data Center and to provide oversight throughout construction, installation and acceptance testing.
