HUB-Robeson Center Expansion
Location: University Park, PA
Client: Penn State University
Architect: Gund Partnership
The expansion and renovation of Penn State’s Hetzel Union Building (HUB)-Robeson Center includes 54,000 square feet of new construction and 52,000 square feet of renovation that will enhance the dining and service areas as part of the expanded multipurpose space.
The HUB serves as a center for activity on the Penn State campus and includes a new mezzanine in the Penn State Bookstore. A green roof above will accommodate outdoor seating space, the first inhabitable green roof on campus, and serve as a function area for a new 150-seat multipurpose flex theater that will be added near the HUB parking deck entrance. The flex theater includes ties to two existing theaters via streaming media. A THON retail store and a new location for student leadership and activities is also part of the project.
Multipurpose meeting rooms are located in the gathering spaces to offer greater visibility to the student leadership group activities. Two 2-section divisible meeting rooms provide assembly spaces for large and medium size groups.
This phased project is scheduled for completion in 2015.
